Although the fashion show, which promotes women's health awareness, was a departure from the leading ladies' day jobs, first-timer Colbie Caillat, wearing Nicole Miller, said she felt prepared for the catwalk. "It's something girls always picture themselves doing, and you always practice whenever you're strutting your stuff down any street," the "Bubbly" singer, 28, told Us Weekly. "So to get to do it tonight in front of all of these people while bringing awareness to heart disease and walking with all of these amazing women is really special."

Weddings can induce some crazy behavior.

Emotions are high, families are thrown together, and everyone must conform to a tight schedule, not to mention the shenanigans that ensue when there's an open bar involved.

Sarah Pease, a well-known New York City proposal planner, has been planning weddings since 2008 with her company Brilliant Event Planning. She's seen everything from the "bridezilla" stressing about every detail to guests showing up in white — a major faux pas.

Pease shared a list of 10 ultimate wedding guest "don'ts" with Business Insider.

Don't deviate from a schedule: "It's not a very sexy idea, but planning can really impact your day and the happiness of everyone there," Pease said. "If you've got to be at the church by 6 p.m., the bride has to leave the hotel by 4:30 because it will take her a half-hour to get into her dress. The hair and make-up people need to know that everyone has to be done by 4:45 so they can help the bride get into her dress. And so on."

"If you're helping or attending, stick to the timeline so the bride only has to worry about her schedule."

Don't wing a wedding speech: "People who say they're just going to wing it crash and bu every time," she said. "You wouldn't show up to a half-marathon without training, so don't show up to the wedding without a prepared speech."

"And keep it short," Pease added. "A five-minute speech is long. Hit three general ideas. Don't ramble. In my experience, you'll get on a tangent and then start talking about something uncomfortable."

Don't wear anything resembling white if you're not the bride: "The bride should be the only person wearing white," Pease said. "There's always at least one person, man or woman, who shows up to the wedding as a guest wearing white or a color too close to white."

Don't stiff the bartender: "You should still tip the bartender even at an open bar because they're making your drink right there," she said. "It's a nice service and they're there for a long time."

Don't get drunk: "This is really up to each person, but there's this idea of 'wedding drunk' that I find useful," she said. "Basically, don't become a hassle for the bride and groom."

Don't complain about the food: Wedding food is notoriously bad, but Pease advises sucking it up. "The rule of thumb is, ask yourself will this upset the bride and groom. If the answer is yes, you shouldn't do it."

"You could have a Michelin chef cooking for everyone and some people would still complain," she said. "Just focus on what's good about the wedding, like getting to celebrate with friends and family."

Don't monopolize the bride and groom: "Cocktail hour is a great time to spend two minutes with the couple," Pease said. "Don't track them down and try to spend 30 minutes catching up. If they did that with all 200 of their guests, they'd run out of time."

"The best thing to do is say a quick congratulations," she said. "You can always schedule a phone call or lunch with the bride or groom for later."

Don't get too aggressive with the bouquet toss: "You've either got a wedding full of single girls or possibly some divorcees," Pease said, "but either way emotions can run high if you think about it as a literal sign for who's getting married next. I like when there's an alliance to flip it to a girl who really wants it."

"If guys want to get in on the action, by all means go for it," she added. "Just be gentle. Don't tackle anyone. It's not a contact sport."

Don't buy a gift the couple didn't put on their registry: "Going off registry is always a contentious subject," Pease said. "Some people think an off-registry gift is more personal or heartfelt. But honest to God, people really just want the stuff on their registry. That's why they picked it."

"But if you do choose to go off registry, cash is a better option than an alteate gift," she told us. "I prefer cash gifts where the giver says, 'Here's x-number of dollars for a helicopter ride in Hawaii, close to where you're honeymooning,' or 'Here's something to put toward your new mortgage.' Something like that to give the money a purpose."

Don't steal souvenirs from the wedding decorations: "Always check with the venue before you grab anything," Pease advised. "Don't ask the bride and groom, but you can ask a waiter or a wedding planner."

"Sometimes, depending on something like an agreement with a florist, you can take the whole centerpiece," she said. "Other times, the vases are rentals or the flowers are being donated to a local hospital the next moing. It's always best to check."

The Golden Globes have, as of recently, been made out to be the younger sibling of the Oscars and the Emmys. It gives fans of television and film an indication of who may be nominated for the bigger awards. While the event has lived up to its reputation in past years, the 71st Golden Globes failed to deliver.

One thing to consider is the quality of movies that were nominated for both the 70th and 71st Golden Globes. In comparison, the movies were much better in 2012. Some of these films included “Argo,” “Les Misérables,” “Silver Linings Playbook,” “Django Unchained” and several more. A few highly regarded films nominated this year were “American Hustle,” Captain Phillips” and “Gravity.” This lack of interesting nominees made for a lackluster best picture race.

Another disappointment about this year was that the show itself just wasn’t very exciting. A tribute to Woody Allen kept viewers entertained for a bit, but something was still missing. The hosts were certainly not the problem; Amy Poehler and Tina Fey displayed the same charm and wit that made them such a hit at last year’s show. It’s no surprise that they were asked to come back for another year as the audience enjoyed seeing their quirky personalities throughout the three-hour event. However, even Fey and Poehler’s excellent repeat performance could not keep the ceremony from feeling dragged out.

This year also lacked the controversy surrounding last year’s show. The Oscar nominations had been released before the Golden Globes and fans were outraged that Argo’s Ben Affleck had not been nominated for Best Director. But Affleck was nominated and won Best Director at the Golden Globes. Either way, it sparked controversy, and it was a major talking point throughout the awards season. This year, the Oscars decided to release nominations on Jan. 16, four days after the Golden Globes, which kept this sort of situation from coming up again.

The most talked about event at the Golden Globes was before the show even started on the red carpet. America’s sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence, who normally wears beautiful dresses, did not follow through this year. She still managed to steal the spotlight with her hilarious photo bomb of Taylor Swift, which quickly went viral. Sandra Bullock and “Girls” star Lena Dunham, who was the most ridiculed, were among the worst dressed as well. Among the best dressed were Emma Watson, Amy Adams and Sofia Vergara.

Then there are the awards itself, which were spread across the board this year. No single film or TV show could seem to break away from the rest. Leonardo DiCaprio won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his performance in “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Amy Adams won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. “American Hustle” won Best Movie in a Musical or Comedy while “12 Years A Slave” won Best Movie in a Drama.

“Breaking Bad” won Best Television Drama, surprising no one, and Andy Samberg’s “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” won Best Television Comedy. The best actor and actress in a drama were Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett.

There were not many special moments in the Golden Globes this year. There were good speeches by some actors and actresses, but not very memorable ones. It has award show watchers split: Will the Oscars/Emmys be better or is this year’s awards season just a bust?

Ultimately, that choice is left to the viewers. At this point, the winners hardly even matter. Audiences tune in to these shows to be entertained, and this year’s Golden Globes simply failed to do so.

The 20th annual Screen Actors Guild awards took place at the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles on Saturday night with American Hustle, Dallas Buyers Club and Breaking Bad all winning big.

With so many A-list celebrities in one place it was the latest chance for Hollywood’s leading ladies to show off their finest frocks.

We take a look at some of the best dressed actresses at the awards.

Who was the best dressed at the SAG awards?

Lupita Nyong’o dazzled in Gucci

Newcomer Lupita Nyong’o has taken the film world by storm after appearing in 12 Years a Slave. And she is fast becoming one to watch when it comes to fashion too. The 30-year-old Kenyan actress looked electric in a dazzling turquoise Gucci dress. She made sure her eyes stood out as well with some arresting blue eye-shadow.

Cate Blanchett looked elegant in Givenchy

Isla Fisher unleashed her siren side in Oscar de la Renta

Isla Fisher channelled her inner Hollywood siren as she attended the SAGs with her Arrested Development co-stars. The Aussie babe, 37, stunned in a flowing Oscar de la Renta gown (with plunging neckline) and dazzling diamond earrings.

While the bold Antonio Berardi dress wo by Amy Adams might not work for everyone who wears it, the 39-year-old Man Of Steel star pulled it off. With a daring slit up the side of her dress, the actress looked the business in this electric blue number.

Aldo Liguori couldn't do his job without languages. Liguori is global head of PR at Fast Retailing, the Japanese company behind inteational clothing giants Uniqlo and French label Comptoir des Cotonniers. He is fluent in five languages, including Japanese, which he says gives him "a complete advantage" when liaising with the media and his senior colleagues around the world.

We meet at the Uniqlo headquarters in Tokyo's tallest office building, looking out over the city of people in bright T-shirts and puffer jackets below. Aldo believes his language skills have elevated his career by giving him the flexibility and adaptability to work in many locations. He has expanded his knowledge of companies, products and media "by being able to speak their language and not assuming that everybody's going to be speaking mine".

Although English is widely spoken in the fashion industry, foreign language skills are becoming increasingly important for those aiming for the top of this highly globalised trade. The UK's second and third favourite high street shops, Zara and H&M, are based overseas, while New Look, currently at number one, recently announced plans to expand its presence in Europe and enter the Chinese market for the first time.

Inteational brands like Uniqlo look for language skills when recruiting. Total fluency is not always necessary: the company offers language training for employees who need to improve and Aldo advises against pretending you know it all. "If you are not able to fully understand what someone is asking or telling you, take a step back and ask them to repeat. Even though I started many years ago, that has been a true success factor for me".

Language study may not be à la mode, yet the British Fashion Council has highlighted the power of languages to extend the worldwide reach of UK-based designers and brands. In its latest report, they want to improve the British fashion industry's world standing by focusing more on languages.

Kat Shallcross thinks her degree in French and Spanish helped her land the position of marketing administrator for New Look, checking stock levels in their European stores. "It would definitely have been difficult to have done the job without my language skills. To be able to speak in French rather than just English made everything more efficient."

Her languages proved essential when she had to give a nerve-wracking but successful French presentation at a European team conference, and on visits to Paris and Belgium where "the store managers couldn't have explained everything in English that they explained to me in French".

Foreign travel is one aspect that makes the fashion industry appear glamorous to outsiders. However, you won't get as far speaking only English on these trips, says Patrick Clark, another languages graduate and online editor for glossy magazine Schön! When we speak he is about to leave for Milan to report on Fashion Week, where networking outside shows is a vital part of the job.

"Anyone you meet at Fashion Week is potentially a colleague. I've created a lot of links in Milan with people by speaking Italian a photographer we're working with now is a friend of a friend." Press releases translated into English often have mistakes, so he always reads them in Italian to get a better feel for the label's image.

Native Russian speaker Jana Reynolds works as the inteational development manager at the exclusive N°10_Showroom in Paris, where her mother tongue is invaluable: "If I did not speak Russian 98% of my Russian clients would not be my clients."

Yet she has found that speaking fluent French and Italian, as well as English, has been useful when building her inteational career. "If you speak French or Italian, or you're a designer showing in France or Italy, you show you belong. Fashion is an industry that survives on symbolic value so heavily."

Just after we speak, she emails to let me know she has just sealed a large deal at a trade show with an elderly Italian customer who owns multiple stores in Udine and speaks zero English, which "would have been a massive opportunity missed if I couldn't communicate".

The more languages, the better, it would seem, but which to lea? "Most of the trade happens in France and Italy, but the real money is not in Europe the buyers are from China and Japan," says Jana. Patrick agrees, noting that many people working in Milan showrooms speak Russian and Chinese to attract high spenders from the East.

This trend has been picked up by Asos, which launched its Chinese site in November, and Topshop, which will soon open its first stores in the country. "There are plenty of times when English isn't enough for work," says Timothy Parent, founder of China Fashion Collective. "Many of the designers I work with only speak Chinese. Building relationships and meeting people are incredibly important, and in China you are extremely limited if you don't speak the language."

Despite the allure of the foreign catwalk, there are currently no joint undergraduate fashion and language courses available in the country. This means students interested in developing their inteational prospects must arrange to study a language in addition to their main degree, sometimes at an extra cost. Some institutions, such as the University of the Creative Arts, offer no form of language provision whatsoever.

This may be due to the demanding nature of practical degrees, says Jason Clapperton, head of careers and student recruitment at London College of Fashion. He does stress that all the college's courses emphasise the global aspect of the industry. "If you set up your own label, you're going to have to know how to deal with people in the industry, and they may be from a whole variety of different countries."

London College of Fashion students are encouraged to make use of the university language centre and Erasmus links to study textiles in Lyon or design in Denmark. His colleague Emilie Gautier is keen to point out that leaing a new language and going abroad is a form of creative and cultural exchange, which can influence a designer's visual, as well as verbal, communication skills.

Nottingham Trent University claims that languages are "definitely beneficial" for all their fashion students, yet among those from the UK, only around one in 10 choose to study a language on top of their course. This suggests that by making an effort to acquire a different vocabulary, students hoping to work in the industry will indeed stand out from the crowd.

Being multilingual can help you make the best of opportunities in the competitive fashion world. Although English remains the industry's current lingua franca, the flexibility gained by leaing another language can take your career to the top. As Jana puts it: "you can get by with English, but it's more about the quality of communication. Fashion people are very irrational, emotional, neurotic people, and the safer they feel in your company, the further you're going to get with them."
